To the point
Every truth requires someone with the courage to speak it. But every question requires someone with the courage to ask it. Our customers are one of the main drivers behind our innovations. What would happen if T-Systems invited them to attend a round-table session? Since we launched our first cloud solution for business applications in 2005, our offering has taken a big step forward each and every year.
In the IT world, updates are identified with release numbers. So we’ve chosen to talk about our experiences in terms of “the cloud generation 1.0 to 7.0”. Join us as we look back.
And ask what today’s cloud 7.0 is all about.

Notes from a fictitious IT summit
To the point – Part 1.
Thank you for inviting me to attend. If you would allow me to pose the first question:
what sets you apart from other providers?
CEO:
In a word, experience. And cloud computing has got more to do with experience and trust than any other technology. We’ve been looking at alternative IT delivery models since early 2000. Back then, we sensed, and studies have subsequently confirmed, that there was a finite limit to the oversizing of IT resources, and that we needed dynamic provisioning, charged according to actual consumption. Our competitors were also interested but we were the first to focus on the application, in our case SAP, and on true scalability – upward and downward.
CUSTOMER:
That describes our situation exactly. Our pain point was a rigid infrastructure that was rarely fully utilized. So in 2005, we opted for Dynamic Services from T-Systems and gained access to IT services as and when we needed them, charged on a pay-per-use basis. So we have been enjoying the advantages of variable on-demand SAP resources with a genuine scalability of 100 percent for seven years now. Today, the focus is on accelerating our services further and making them more flexible – and in the mid-term, enabling dynamic delivery of very complex applications.

HEAD OF SECURITY, SOCCER WORLD CUP:
But it would not have been possible back then without our experience and expertise in security. We were able to put our skills to good use at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. We were responsible for the entire infrastructure at all venues and for live worldwide transmission of all the matches. We were the only organization with the networks and skills needed for a major event of this scale that could expertly combine IT and telecommunications. And we were able to make immediate use of the experience gained from the soccer tournament when we developed our cloud strategy.
